Defence KBA Project Completed and the Project Book Published

Underwater Research Society (SAD) has published “Protection and Defence of Key Biodiversity Areas Along Turkish Coasts” as one of the outcomes of the project with the same name, which was carried out between April 2015 and December 2019.

The book consisted of 28 cases of recent habitat protection and 9 cases of previous habitat protection practices along Turkish coasts. Each coastal habitat protection and defence story is given individually while 500 pages of the relevant communique letters to the responsible official departments and their replies are given in the Annexes, which is considered to provide useful examples how to deal with similar problematic coastal habitat destruction case in the country in the future, if any. 660 pages of E-book of Protection and Defence of Coastal  KBAs (in Turkish) can be seen in this link.

At the end of the project, 20 sensitive coastal areas were protected out of total 28 areas targeted in Defence KBA Project funded by MAVA Foundation and GEF-SGP Turkey UNDP. The Project has a specific web site which provides activities and monitoring of coastal sensitive zones that are under threat; https://defencekbaturkiyedotorg.wordpress.com
